December 2020 - Health Safety Update

Dear Students/Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of the staff of Delta High School, I would like to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year! We look forward to partnering with you as we navigate the unique challenges of the current pandemic while educating our students. This letter is written to inform you of what to expect as we start the school year.

Due to state and county restrictions, Delta High School will operate using a hybrid format alternating daily between in-person and distance instruction. Our students will be divided up alphabetically across grade levels into “green” and “white” day groups. This is done so that roughly half of our student enrollment is on campus each day allowing for less peer exposure and a greater capability for the school to adhere to the restrictions in place. Students will be registered in six classes with each class meeting for sixty minutes. This is done to lessen the number of classes our students are responsible for while managing this new hybrid format. Green day students will follow their schedules and attend in-person learning with their teachers and classmates on green days. While this takes place on green days, white day students will be logged into their classes following the same time schedule and receiving live distance instruction from home. The reverse of this will take place with white day students on a white day. This hybrid format will allow for students and staff to be better prepared if we are forced into a school closure like we experienced in March. If a closure were to occur students would continue to follow their scheduled classes at their scheduled times from home while teachers provide live distance instruction.

The registration process has begun for all returning students with online registration that opened on August 3rd. Please complete the online registration process as soon as possible. The following registration schedule is for students and parents/guardians to come in person to the DHS campus to ask questions, check current course schedules, and pay fees:

  • New to Delta (not incoming freshmen entering from Delta Middle) & Vision Crossover Students - Thursday, August 6th from 1:00-4:00 & Friday, August 7th from 8:30-11:30 & 12:00-3:00
  • Seniors - Monday, August 10th from 8:30-11:30 & 12:00-3:00
  • Juniors - Wednesday, August 12th from 8:30-11:30 & 12:00-3:00
  • Sophomores - Thursday, August 13th from 8:30-11:30 & 12:00-3:00
  • Freshmen - Friday, August 14th from 8:30-11:30 & 12:00-3:00

***All schedule changes will be completed using the request form located on our website***

Green and white day student groups will be finalized once registration is complete. You

will be notified on August 17th what student group you are assigned to and report to in-person learning following the DHS Hybrid Green/White Calendar found on our website.

Student orientation will be done for all green day students on August 19th & 21st. White day students will attend orientation days on August 20th & 24th. We will not have the traditional “freshmen only” orientation. Each student group will follow their daily course schedules, be assigned personal chromebooks, and learn the health guidelines and procedures that will be used to be successful in this hybrid learning model.

Students can expect to be screened and temperature checked when using our bussing system and/or entering Delta High School everyday. Masks are required for all students riding busses and moving throughout our school building. Students are expected to provide their own mask to meet this requirement.

We believe that learning does not occur when challenge is not present and we therefore

look forward to partnering with you to meet the challenge this pandemic has presented us. We will all learn and have a successful 2020-2021 school year due to our willingness to do our part. Please feel free to call the school with any questions you may have.
